Brand: Cascade Designs
Name of the agent: Noémie
How would you summarize the vision of the brand in a few words? How does the products represent this vision?
Cascade design included many brands including:
Thermarest: As a climber, Jim Lea, Neil Anderson, and John Burroughs noticed that days seem longer in the mountains when their sleep was not optimal. They concluded that a high quality and comfortable mattress will change the game. It's then with their mastermind and their goal of enjoying nature at 100% that they created the first self-inflatable mattress on the market. Their first focus is the comfort. From what they say, with a better sleep comes better adventure!
MSR (Mountain Safety Research): Initially.MSR is born from a newsletter from 1969. This publication had a goal to inform the public about safety in the mountains. Their creator, Larry Penberthy was an inventor with a huge passion for mountaineering. He dedicated his life to make the backcountry a safer place to be. Their philosophy is the following: THE IDEA THAT BETTER, SAFER, MORE RELIABLE EQUIPMENT IS THE KEY TO UNLOCKING GREATER ADVENTURES.
SealLine: Originally, SealLine was developed in partnership with the American Navy. The waterproof bags were designed according to the strictest standards in terms of material protection. Subsequently, understanding that this technology would be useful to anyone practicing a water sport, they offered their technology to the big market.
With the introduction of their famous double-fold system in 1986, they made the most waterproof bag on the market. Their philosophy goes like this: "We make our gear because we believe that what you take with you on your adventures—clothes, sleeping bags, food, and equipment—deserves to stay protected, safe, and accessible. We also believe that you should be able to count on that protection, now and into the future."
PackTowl: This company offers a very specific product. Technical towels, light, dry at lightning speed, super absorbent and highly compressible, perfect for any adventure in nature! These microfiber towels can be used for different purposes, are available in several formats (see picture below), for example for spontaneous swimming in a lake at altitude, long international treks, or to accompany you to the yoga studio. "Our goal is a simple one: continue to make the towels you reach for when you’re out soaking up life." To this day, PackTowel stays a family business.
Platypus: For more than twenty years, this company has been dedicated to providing water filtration systems and everything connected with it in order to obtain pure water without any after-taste. They produce products as much for everyday use in the city, as in nature trails. In addition, the majority of their products are manufactured in the USA and have a certified laboratory installed so that the products are tested and retested before being put on the market. This lab is therefore dedicated to research, development and the addition of new technologies to meet needs.
What are the flagship product of the brand and why?
Speaking of best sellers at Therma-Rest, apparently, the company has some unmatched when we take a few minutes to do our own research on this by visiting professional blogs.
Z Lite Sol ™ & Original Z Lite ™ - One of the best '' at large '' sellers at all outdoor gear reviewer sites. The only problem is that it must be attached to the outside of the backpack, so less ideal weather, on the other hand, with a PackTowl, it would be easy to wipe the water beforeseting up your Bivvy! R-Value 2.2-2.6 / Weight 410G / Dimension when folded 51cm X 13cm X 14cm
Still a favorite of the ultralight elite, the Z Lite mattresses are our lightest, most compact closed-cell mattresses. Both the Z Lite SOL and the original Z Lite feature a compact accordion-style shape and heat-trapping dimples. The Z Lite SOL adds our reflective ThermaCapture™ coating that helps capture radiant heat, increasing overall warmth by nearly 20%. The proprietary foams are softer on top for extra comfort and denser on the bottom for extra durability. Wherever you're headed, a Z Lite mattress is the right choice for ultralight warmth, durability and comfort.
NeoAir® XLite® - The best investment for those who can afford this more technical purchase. This mattress is the most compact in its category (+1 point for lovers of hyperlight backpacking!) And can protect you from cold on the ground in any season (3 seasons)! The negative comment that comes back is the fact that it is very narrow, but it is certain that to minimize its weight/volume, it was necessary to make compromises.
R-value 3.2 / Weight 340g / Dimension folded 23 cm x 10 cm

As for MSR, they have the Hubba and the Windburner and the famous Pocket Rocket.
Windburner (Personal or Duo): A modular, windproof personal stove system for minimalist outings and quick meals that require boiling water. This item is comparable to Jetboil Flash in terms of features. Indeed, just like his competitor, the kit is stored in his pan, including the fuel tank.
Its radiant-heat burner and closed wind-proof design make it possible to boil water quickly and operate in conditions that are too difficult for conventional stoves. The all-in-one system slips into the pan for easy storage or deployment, giving you more time to enjoy your ride. Boost faster and more fuel efficient than conventional stoves.
Boiling time for 1L is 4.5 min. The pan makes 1L for the personal version. The set weighs 430g. Made in USA.
The reviews are extremly positive, have a look here!
PocketRocket 2: Ultralight cartridge warmer for quick boiling. The pocket rocket is aptly named. At $ 45, it's hard to beat. (Photo on next page)
The next-generation PocketRocket ™ 2 stove retains the impressive qualities of the original iconic stove but becomes more compact, lighter and more efficient. Light and compact, you will not even know it's in your bag. A precise flame control to modulate the flame from low heat to boiling. The new folding pot support arms reduce volume, and now accommodate a wider range of containers - combine this warmer with the MSR Titan ™ kettle for the ultimate in lightweight and fast hiking.
The only point against it is that it does not do the weight in more extreme or windy conditions. Also, this system is not as stable as the Windburner, which is fixed to it. Be careful not to spill your pot!

Boiling time for 1L 3.5 min / Weight 70g / Made in Korea
Tente Hubba Tour: Unique all-around protection for solo cycling and traveling in comfort.
The structure based on an exoskeleton defies the rain and allows the inner fabric to stay dry while mounting the tent. A large vestibule provides enough space for you to change clothes before entering the tent. A partial floor mat in the vestibule allows you to store your equipment without touching the ground. Other storage solutions in the tent - large pockets, hanging storage space, hanging loops - keep you organized. Waterproof Xtreme Shield ™ coating lasts three times longer than standard waterproof coatings.
What sets this brand apart from these competitors?
With Therm-a-rest there is especially the Speed Valve which allows inflating a mattress very quickly with less effort.
What are the novelties of this year?
The Hubba Tour tent doubles the storage space. You can bring a bike, dog or other things that requires storage inside the tent. Perfect for people traveling with extra equipment.
Any new technology? How do they work?
Does the flagship product has been modified?
No, not really, though the PocketRocket's arms have been redesigned to take up even less space and be compatible with more cooking pots and pans.
How long is the warranty offered for? What does it cover?
This 3-year limited warranty is provided by Cascade Designs, Inc., parent company of Mountain Safety Research (MSR).
